PROJECT SUMMARY
This couple was no stranger to outdoor lighting. The husband had a wide assortment of lights strewn around in the backyard when our lighting designer, Pete Bryant showed up for their lighting consultation. He knew good lighting was possible, but wasn’t able to achieve the look he wanted without professional help. The homeowner had tried fixtures found at Home Depot and Lowes and even online, but wasn’t impressed with the quality of light. During the design phase, Southern Lights provided the road map and detailed lighting designs for this client capturing this beautiful setting at night creating the most ideal landscape lighting scenes.

LIGHTING DESIGN
Ideal landscape lighting should evoke Safety. Security. SERENITY and should always start with a design. This was a really fun project to collaborate with the homeowner and share some of our experience with him with what we would like to focus on and how/why we light what we light. The best part of this project was when the clients came outside for the first time and we flipped the switch, their jaws literally were wide open with excitement seeing their backyard retreat come to life.
The maturity of their trees and landscape allowed us to utilize a few more lighting techniques to create a more realistic outdoor lighting scene. The location and size of the large Oak Tree really was the centerpiece of the backyard making a serious statement. Illuminating this tree correctly was really important to help give balance to this outdoor lighting installation. This tree offered height, down lighting (moonlighting), and reflective lighting into the backyard space helping to provide a very natural looking space that felt comfortable to be in during the evening hours.
Automation was also added to this system giving these clients full access to their lighting system from a smart phone or tablet anywhere in the world.
